Beach Tennis Cruises Past Yale, 6-1
Long Beach State took the doubles point, then won four singles matches in straight sets to claim a comfortable victory.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Beach Tennis nearly pulled off a sweep on Friday afternoon, claiming a 6-1 win over visiting Yale at Rhodes Tennis Center. With the win, LBSU improves to 11-2 overall and a perfect 7-0 in home matches this season. The Bulldogs fall to 5-9 on the season.
The top two doubles pairs for the Beach earned victories to start the day, led by seniors Julie Gerard and Maeva Razakasoa at the No. 1 spot with a 6-0 win. At the No. 2 spot, Laura Eales and Lena Pacholski took a 6-3 win to clinch the doubles point for the 49ers.
It was Eales who started things off right for the Beach in singles play, earning a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 spot in the lineup. Three other Beach players earned straight-set victories as well, with Gerard winning 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2, Pacholski winning 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 and freshman Natalia Munoz winning 7-5, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot.
The other matches went to third-set tiebreakers, with Maren Helgo claiming a 5-7, 6-3, 10-3 victory at No. 3 and Razakasoa coming up short in a tough battle at the top of the order, losing 2-6, 7-5, 11-9.
LBSU will remain at home for three more matches on the homestand. Next up will be a Thursday meeting with Dartmouth at 2 p.m.
