Beach Tennis Tops San Diego to Close 3-0 Week
LBSU stayed unbeaten at home this season with a 5-2 win over visiting San Diego on Saturday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - -- Beach Tennis capped off a perfect 3-0 week with a 5-2 win over San Diego on Saturday afternoon at Rhodes Tennis Center. Long Beach State improved to 5-0 at home this season and pushed its record to 9-2 overall. USD falls to 4-7 with the loss.
Long Beach State claimed a lengthy battle for the doubles point, clinching with a 7-6 (10) win at the No. 1 spot thanks to seniors Maeva Razakasoa and Julie Gerard. Earlier in the doubles round, Laura Eales and Lena Pacholski earned a more conventional 6-4 victory at the No. 2 doubles spot.
Moving to singles, Razakasoa again led the way with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1. LBSU’s all-time singles wins leader picked up her third singles win in three matches this week and had a 5-0 overall record when including her doubles performances. Pacholski was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 4, also improving to 3-0 in singles on the week. She has won her last four singles matches, which is the longest active streak on the team.
Freshman Maren Helgo took a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles and Eales was a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 winner at No. 6 to round out the 5-2 result.
LBSU will remain at home for its next five matches, starting with UT Arlington on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. The Beach will then play host to Yale on Friday at 2 p.m.
