Beach Tennis Tops San Diego State, 5-2
LBSU earned a win a day early after the match was moved to Thursday due to inclement weather in the forecast.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Long Beach State picked up its first road win of the season on Thursday afternoon, dispatching of San Diego State, 5-2. The match was originally scheduled for Friday, but was moved up due to severe rain in the forecast for Southern California. LBSU improves to 4-1 on the year while SDSU falls to 3-6 on the campaign.
At the top of the lineup, seniors Maeva Razakasoa and Julie Gerard each went 2-0 on the day. The duo paired up for a 6-4 win in doubles, then each earned individual singles wins. Razakasoa, who is ranked No. 124 in the country, won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Gerard was a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 winner at No. 2.
The other singles winners for the Beach were Lena Pacholski at No. 4 and Natalia Munoz at No. 5. Pacholski picked up a comfortable 6-0, 6-3 win while the freshman Munoz was a 7-5, 6-3 winner. Munoz also picked up a doubles win with partner Maren Helgo, 7-5, to help LBSU claim the doubles point.
LBSU has now won four matches in a row and will remain on the road for its only out-of-state trip of the season. The Beach will travel to Honolulu, Hawai’i for a pair of matches next weekend. The 49ers will face BYU at 3 p.m. PT on Friday, then take on Big West rivals Hawai’i on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT.
