49ers Take Down No. 46 LSU 5-2

No. 39 Long Beach State handed No. 46 Louisiana State University its first loss, winning 5-2 Saturday at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
The 49ers came out strong in doubles play against their first ranked opponent of the season as Ebba Unden and Karolina Rozenberg defeated Ebie Wilson and Keri Frankenberger 8-4 at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 1 spot, Klaudia Malenovska and Sarah Cantlay suffered their first loss of the season, falling 8-4 to Ariel Morton and Mary Jeremiah. With the doubles point split, it came down to the No. 3 spot as Hazuki Onaga and Anne-Sophie Willems beat Caroline Hudson and Kaitlin Burns 8-4 to give the 49ers the early 1-0 lead.
In singles, Unden put on another impressive performance at the No. 2 spot, beating Ella Taylor, 6-3, 6-0. Karolina Rozenberg, playing at the No. 5 spot, earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Caroline Hudson and Klaudia Malenovska sealed the Long Beach State win with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mary Jeremiah at the No. 1 spot. Eva Rodriguez gained LBSU's fifth point with a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) win over Ariel Morton. Sarah Cantlay fell for the first time this season to No. 112 Kaitlin Burns 6-2, 6-3, snapping her six match winning streak. Anne-Sophie Willems, who was 2-0 in singles play in 2013, was unable to get the victory against Ebie Wilson, falling 6-2, 6-2.
The 49ers return to conference play tomorrow in an 11 a.m. match-up against UC Santa Barbara at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
