LBSU Posts 7-0 Win over UCR in Big West Opener

LONG BEACH, Calif. - No. 39 Long Beach State opened Big West Conference play on a high note, gaining an 7-0 victory over UC Riverside on Saturday at the Rhodes Tennis Center. In doubles, the 49ers were off to a commanding start as Ebba Unden and Karolina Rozenberg as well as Anne-Sophie Willems and Hazuki Onaga gained 8-1 wins over Pattugalan/McKay and Bergeson/Doan. At the No. 1 spot, Klaudia Malenovska and Sarah Cantlay led sisters Jamie and Taylor Raney 6-5 when the match was suspended. In singles play, reigning Big West Player of the Week Klaudia Malenovska was able to hold off Jamie Raney, 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot while Ebba Unden defeated Taylor Raney, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. Sarah Cantlay gained a 6-1, 6-4 win over Natalie McKay and Eva Rodriguez defeated Courtney Pattugalan 6-4, 6-1. Anna Jeczmionka was able to get the 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kate Bergeson and Karolina Rozenberg shut out Thanh Doan, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot. LBSU will play two matches on the road next week. The 49ers will travel to Cal State Fullerton on Thursday for a 2 p.m. match that was rescheduled from Friday, Jan. 25 due to rain. On Friday, Long Beach State will play a 1:30 p.m. match at Loyola Marymount. Singles: Doubles:
