Long Beach State Continues Strong Play on Day Two of the Beach Winter Invitational

Long Beach, Calif. - No. 39 Long Beach State posted nine more wins on Saturday, the second day of the Beach Winter Invitational at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
The 49ers won all three matches in doubles play against New Mexico. Klaudia Malenovska and Sarah Cantlay shut out Eggleston/Sablina, 8-0 at the No. 2 spot as Ebba Unden and Karolina Rozenberg prevailed against Bezdickova/Richardon, 8-5. Anne-Sophie Willems and Hazuki Onaga closed out the LBSU sweep with a 8-3 win over Grbac/Oldani at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, Long Beach State was able to grab six more victories, five of which came against Colorado and one against New Mexico, due to a scratch from Colorado at the No. 8 spot. Freshman Ebba Unden continued her strong play, beating Winde Janssens 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot, as Sarah Cantlay also gained another win, this time over Dhany Quevedo 6-3, 6-2.
Eva Rodriguez was able to defeat Mazy Watrous in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 4 spot and Anna Jeczmionka and Anne-Sophie Willems each posted 6-0, 6-1 wins over Mattison Sperry and Laura Wegleitner respectively.
Hazuki Onaga closed out the victories for the 49ers as she took down Michaela Oldani of New Mexico 6-3, 6-2. Klaudia Malenovska fell to Julyette Steur at the No. 1 spot 6-2, 7-5 and Karolina Rozenberg was unable to close out Carla Manzi Tenorio 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 2-6 at the No. 5 spot.
LBSU will finish out the Beach Winter Invitational tomorrow as they take on Nevada in doubles play and New Mexico in singles play. Doubles play will begin at 10 a.m.
