The 42nd ranked Long Beach State women's tennis team didn't waste anytime in its first day of the spring season as the 49ers earned ten victories Friday at the LBSU Winter Invitational held at the Rhodes Tennis Center.

The day began with doubles play as the 49ers took on conference foe Cal State Northridge. LBSU earned three victories right away at the No. 1, 2 and 4 spots. Top duo Ebba Unden and Maeva Razakasoa defeated Criss Rodriguez and Vivian Lin 8-3 while Karolina Rozenberg and Julie Gerard picked up an 8-3 win over Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei. The young Beach squad didn't let up when singles play came around, picking up victories at all spots except at No. 1 against their opponents from the University of Portland. Several of the 49ers put on commanding performances including Laura Eales who blanked Emily Mahairas, 6-0, 6-0. Additionally, Maeva Razakasoa earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jelena Lazarevic and Julie Gerard defeated Sophie van den Aarrsen 6-0, 6-2. The only victory for the Pilots was at the No. 1 spot where Maja Mladenovic came back to pick up the win over Ebba Unden.

"This was a good start to our spring semester," 49er Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello said. "We played well across the board and our hard work from the fall semester really showed."

Beach Tennis will continue tournament play tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with doubles followed by singles. All results from this weekend's tournament count toward each individual's record. No team results are recorded.
