Kobi Pekich Selected As Third-Team Academic All-America

June 8, 2017

Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Kobi Pekich claimed another significant honor as she was selected as a third-team CoSIDA Academic All-American in the At-Large category.

One of 45 student-athletes selected in the at-large category, Pekich was not only competing against other Beach Volleyball participants, but also outstanding athletes and scholars from 13 other NCAA women’s sports who are not recognized by individual sport in the CoSIDA All-American program.

The award is given to those who best represent a combination of both athletic and academic success annually across Division I.

Pekich graduated in May with a degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in teacher education, completing her undergraduate studies with a 4.0 GPA. Pekich posted a 22-13 overall record while playing primarily at No. 2 for LBSU, and in just two seasons at Long Beach State ranks in the program’s top ten with 43 career wins. She played a big part in Long Beach State advancing to the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship for the first time, held in Gulf Shores, Ala.

While in Gulf Shores, Pekich claimed the NCAA Elite 90 award, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA of those competing in each of the 90 NCAA Championships. She then went on to represent Long Beach State in the USAV Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship, a pairs competition for the top 24 pairs in the country sponsored by USA Volleyball.

With her selection, Pekich is the 18th individual Long Beach State student-athlete selected as an Academic All-American, while LBSU has been represented a total of 23 times.
