Kobi Pekich Named First Team Academic All-District

May 11, 2017

Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Kobi Pekich garnered another honor Thursday as she was recognized as a first-team Academic All-District selection by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA).

Pekich received the honor in the at-large division of District 8. Ten student-athletes were selected on the first-team for each district, which for the western District 8 includes California, Oregon Washington, Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Alaska and Hawai'i.

The COSIDA at-large program acknowledges the efforts in competition and in the classroom of student-athletes whose sports aren't honored individually through the Academic All-America program. Pekich was one of two Beach Volleyball players recognized in District 8.

A senior graduating in May with a degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in teacher education, Pekich holds a 4.0 GPA and played a big part in Long Beach State advancing to the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala. for the first time in 2017.

Pekich posted a 22-13 overall record while playing primarily at No. 2 for LBSU, and in just two seasons at Long Beach State ranks in the program's top ten with 43 career wins.

While in Gulf Shores, Pekich claimed the NCAA Elite 90 award, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA of those competing in each of the 90 NCAA Championships.

Pekich is currently participating in the USAV Collegiate Beach Volleyball championships with Rachel Nieto, two of 24 American pairs who were eligible for selection. The pair went 2-0 in pool play on Thursday to open the competition.

By virtue of her selection for Academic All-District, Pekich is eligible for Academic All-America honors, which only 22 other 49ers have received in school history.
