Nieto And Pekich To Compete In USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships
The event will be held from May 11-13 in Hermosa Beach.
Long Beach, Calif. - Rachel Nieto and Kobi Pekich were among the 24 women’s pairs selected to compete in the inaugural USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships this weekend in Hermosa Beach, Calif.
USA Volleyball has initiated a competition in partnership with the NCAA that will be played in an individual, rather than team format with the winner of the tournament earning a spot on the USA Beach Collegiate National Team.
Two First-Team All-Big West selections, Nieto and Pekich will play together as only American Citizens were eligible for selection. Nieto was 25-11 in her third season at Long Beach State, playing every match in the top flight with Nele Barber, while Pekich went 22-13 with her primary partner Sasha Karelov.
Pool play begins on May 11, while the seeded single elimination tournament portion will begin on May 12.
Additionally, three Long Beach State players from the Men’s Volleyball indoor team were entered into the draw as well, part of 12 teams selected in the men’s draw. Louis Richard and Matt Butler will play together, while Vincent Pizzuti will compete with Tyler Hedley of Palomar College.
