Long Beach, Calif. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association has announced the ten "Best of the Rest" teams that will join the team competitors for the 2014 Sand Volleyball Pairs Championships. Both Delainey Aigner-Swesey and Bojana Todorovic as well as Tyler Jackson and Janisa Johnson were invited to compete, representing Long Beach State.

The 2014 pairs competition will feature 20 different teams, with each school participating in the team portion sending their No. 1 team (6), and the Final Four teams adding their No. 2 team. 10 other pairs were chosen from the non-participating schools, with Aigner-Swesey, Todorovic, Jackson, and Johnson meriting selection as two of the Top 10 pairs across the nation.

Long Beach State was also the only school to have two teams selected for the "Best of the Rest."

Aigner-Swesey and Todorovic spent 12 matches as the No. 1 team for Long Beach State, putting up a 13-5 record against top competition as the No. 5 49ers saw five dual matches against teams ranked No. 1 through 4, as well as two matches against the No. 6 teams in UCLA and St. Mary's.

Jackson and Johnson followed up their undefeated campaign in 2013 with a move up the ladder, playing 3 matches at No. 1 and 12 at No. 2 for Long Beach State. The pair posted a 15-5 record, and reached the finals of the top flight of pairs play at last weekend's Big West Challenge.

Competing duos will be split into two pools of five for round-robin play on Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3. The top two teams from each pool will then be entered into the 16-pair, single elimination tournament on Sunday to determine a pairs National Champion.

Long Beach State has traditionally had success in the event, with Caitlin Ledoux and Tara Roenicke reaching the championship match in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons, earning All-American honors.
