Sand Volleyball Finishes Home Schedule This Week, Hosting CSUB and Grand Canyon
April 15, 2013
Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State closes out the home portion of their 2013 season, hosting Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday at 1 p.m. before bringing Grand Canyon to the LBSU Sand Courts Thursday at 1 p.m.
Both Cal State Bakersfield and Grand Canyon are in their first season of sponsoring Sand Volleyball. The 49ers previously defeated Cal State Bakersfield 5-0 on April 2, part of a three-way match with LMU. The closest match on that day came in the top flight, as Tara Roenicke and Caitlin Ledoux outlasted Debora Araujo and Yuan Fu 21-16, 21-17.
The 49ers will have three players exhausting their sand eligibility this season, and Thursday will be the final home match for Ledoux along with the 49ers' fourth pair, Lauren Minkel and Jocelyn Neely, who together have compiled a 13-1 overall record this season, the most wins for any pair on the Long Beach State team.
After this week's matches, the 49ers will participate in the USAV Invitational on April 20-21, and will await a potential invitation to the AVCA National Championships, held May 3-5 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The sand volleyball courts are found on campus, located directly behind the baseball diamond past the Walter Pyramid. Fans can park in Lot 13 in front of the Walter Pyramid and make the short walk southeast to the courts. Admission is free.
