Long Beach State to play first road dual match in Sand Volleyball
April 3, 2012
Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State's sand volleyball team will make their first road trip for a dual match, heading to Malibu, Calif. to face Pepperdine on Thursday, April 5 at Noon.
Thursday's contest is a rematch of an earlier meeting at Long Beach State, which was a fantastic match, in which Pepperdine outlasted the 49ers 3-2.
Pepperdine enters the week with a 5-0 record, while Long Beach State is 2-2 with losses to the Waves and USC. However, the two wins were the only losses that Pepperdine has had in dual play, as the Waves traveled to South Carolina last weekend and rolled up four 5-0 sweeps over Southern opponents.
Long Beach State's Caitlin Ledoux and Tara Roenicke defeated Caitlin Racich and Summer Ross 19-21, 21-17, 15-6 in the first dual meeting between the teams in the top flight, a matchup that featured two of the top pairs in the nation. Long Beach State's Lauren Minkel and Jocelyn Neely won the other match for Long Beach State against the Waves.
After Thursday's match, the 49ers will wait until the USAV Inviational on April 14 and 15 before playing again, and then close out the regular season with a match against Hawaii down at the beach on April 16.
