Beach Volleyball To Host Tri-Dual With Concordia, Colorado Mesa

March 20, 2017

Long Beach, Calif. - No. 6 Long Beach State will continue to play at home, hosting a tri-dual on Tuesday with Concordia and Colorado Mesa beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Long Beach State (9-2) held steady in the polls last week after pushing No. 2 Pepperdine to the limit and defeating Loyola Marymount at the LBSU Sand Courts, and will need to grab a pair of wins while continuing to play at home.

Nele Barber and Rachel Nieto continue to pace the Beach, as Long Beach State’s top pair remained undefeated last week and are now 11-0 on the season. With a pair of wins on Tuesday, the duo would pass Delainey Aigner-Swesey and Chelsea Cabrajac for fourth-place all-time in combined career wins at LBSU in just their second season playing together.

Beach Volleyball Wins A Pair At CSUN
No. 7 Long Beach State extended its winning streak to five straight matches with a pair of 4-1 wins in Northridge Thursday. The Beach started with a 4-1 win over Concordia before dropping host CSUN 4-1 in a three-way dual match.

Also riding a tremendous win streak are Jenelle Hudson and Megan Kruidhof, who also won three times last week and have now won six straight matches at No. 5 for the Beach.

With the team’s pairs settling in, Long Beach State’s other three pairs all went 2-1 on the week, winning against TCU and LMU while falling to Pepperdine. Sophomore Anete Brinke and Hailey Harward helped Long Beach State nearly defeat the Waves, falling in three sets in a great match to Skyler Caputo and Heidi Dyer 21-17, 22-24, 15-12.

Concordia competes in the NAIA and Colorado-Mesa competes in Division II, but both matches count towards Long Beach State’s overall record on the year. Colorado Mesa enters Tuesday 1-4, while Concordia is 8-0 this season, and are coached by former Long Beach State setter Ashley Lee.
