Full-Strength 49ers To Host Nebraska, No. 1 Pepperdine This Week
March 18, 2013
Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State's undefeated Sand Volleyball team returns to campus this week, hosting Nebraska on Tuesday before bringing No. 1 Pepperdine to campus for a rematch of last season's national championship match. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on the LBSU Sand Courts.
2012 All-American Tara Roenicke returns to full-time action with her partner, All-American Caitlin Ledoux, for the 49ers in the top flight after missing the team's first three matches. The pair earned a key victory for Long Beach State at USC last weekend, winning 21-14, 21-16 to seal a 3-2 win over the Trojans, and helping the 49ers move to 4-0 on the year after the opening week of the year.
The 49ers also showcased their depth in the early part of the year, as their No. 4 team, Lauren Minkel and Jocelyn Neely, as well as the No. 5 team, Tyler Jackson and Janisa Johnson, both won all four matches in the duals last week.
Nebraska comes to The Beach as a first-year program, while the 49ers will try to get revenge against the Waves after falling in the final match of the season last year in Gulf Shores, Ala. at the AVCA National Championship. The match with Pepperdine is the first of a home-and-home with the Waves, pitting the top-ranked programs against each other for the first time in 2013.
The sand volleyball courts are found on campus, located directly behind the baseball diamond past the Walter Pyramid. Fans can park in Lot 13 and make the short walk to the courts. Admission is free.
