No. 7 Long Beach State To Face Two Ranked Opponents This Week

March 5, 2018

Long Beach, Calif. - Fresh off of a 2-0 start to the season, No. 7 Long Beach State is back in action with three matches this week starting on Tuesday, March 6.

Long Beach State (2-0) will head to Irvine Valley College, who are hosting a tri-dual with the Lasers, the Beach and No. 10 Arizona (5-1). The matchup between the two ranked teams starts the day at 2 p.m., before exhibitions with Irvine Valley, who despite having success don’t count as an NCAA win due to their junior college status.

The next day, Wednesday, March 7, Long Beach State hosts No. 1 Pepperdine (5-2), who moved to the top of the polls after wins last week against UCLA and USC. The Beach hosts the Waves in a single dual match scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the LBSU Sand Courts.

Returning All-Americans Nele Barber and Rachel Nieto have gotten off to a good start, winning their first two matches this season Sunday. With the pair of wins, Nieto moved in second place in school history with 62 career victories, passing Janisa Johnson.

All five pairs won both matches however, in sweeps. Kristyna Adamcikova/Hailey Harward and Anete Brinke/Sasha Karelov traded off in flights two and three in a pair of wins, while two freshmen debuted at four and five, as junior Zoi Konstantopoulou paired with Nicci Reinking and senior Hannah Matt played with Marisa Ramsey.
