Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State, ranked No. 3 in the preseason AVCA polls, begins the 2014 sand volleyball this Friday under the direction of new head coach Erika Dillard. The 49ers will compete in the Hawaii Kickoff Tournament this Friday and Saturday.

Long Beach State opens the season with three dual matches on the islands. The 49ers will begin the tournament at Noon PT on Friday, March 7 by facing Loyola Marymount. The team will then continue by playing No. 10 Stanford at 2 p.m. PT before finishing off at 4 p.m. against the hosts, No. 5 Hawai'i.

The tournament will then feature pairs play on the second day of the tournament, Saturday March 8.

The 49ers will likely be led by senior Delainey Aigner-Swesey, who still has sand eligibility remaining, along with a fifth-year transfer from UCLA, Bojana Todorovic. Last year's undefeated tandem of Tyler Jackson and Janisa Johnson will also remain together, as will Bre Mackie and Chelsea Cabrajac.

Newcomers include a pair of twins from Encinitas, Calif., Morea and Ciana Wagner, who are participating in sand volleyball only and playing together, as will Alex Reid and Iowa State transfer Jenelle Hudson.

Long Beach State will return to Long Beach following their trip to the islands for its home opener on March 12, hosting No. 4 Florida State at 1 p.m. at the LBSU sand courts.
