Ledoux and Roenicke Reach National Finals for Second Straight Season

Long Beach, Calif. - All-Americans Caitlin Ledoux and Tara Roenicke had another memorable run in the AVCA Pairs Championship, reaching the title match for the second straight season, but were unable to push over the top, falling to Kirby Burnham and Stevi Robinson of USC 21-19, 21-19 in the finals in a very close match.
To reach the finals, Ledoux and Roenicke had to win three earlier matches in a busy day of action. The pair started the day by defeated Felicia Arriola and Litara Keil 21-13, 24-22, with the pair combining for 13 aces on a windy day in Gulf Shores.
In the quarterfinals, the LBSU duo beat USC's No. 2 park, defeating Cinnamon Sary and Katie Fuller 21-19, 21-13 behind 18 kills from Roenicke. In the semifinals, Roenicke and Ledoux then passed by Jessica Mendoza and Maryna Samoday of Florida International with a quick 21-11, 21-16 win, taking advantage of 17 digs from Tara Roenicke.
The 49ers had one other pair qualify for the 16-team, single elimination tournament in Delainey Aigner-Swesey and Chelsea Cabrajac. The pair lost in the Round of 16, falling in three sets to Mendoza and Samoday 21-11, 22-24, 15-12.
Sunday's action concludes the 2013 season, an unqualified success that saw the 49ers finish with a 20-3 record as the No. 1 team in the country and the 2013 AVCA National Champions.
