49ers go 3-3 in pool play at Sand National Championships

Gulf Shores, Ala. - Long Beach State began their time at the AVCA National Championships today, as two pairs participated in the pools portion of the individual national championship.
Caitlin Ledoux and Tara Roenicke won two matches but lost to Frederick and Hill of Pepperdine, while Haleigh Hampton and Chelsea Cabrajac went 1-2, defeating Jane Croson and Ashley Lee of Hawai'I 21-19, 9-21, 15-11.
In pool B, Ledoux and Roenicke won their first two matches of the day. The pair defeated Chubb and Theesfeld of the College of Charleston 21-9, 21-15, before topping Melville and Bassett of Stetson 21-15, 21-11.
Hampton and Cabrajac had two losses on the day. The pair lost 21-17, 21-11 to Shelton/Kolich of the College of Charleston, but pushed the top team in the group, Newgard/Tiegs of Florida State, to three sets, falling 18-21, 21-17, 15-8.
The team championship begins tomorrow in a four-team, double-elimination format. Long Beach State will start play against Florida State, while Pepperdine takes on the College of Charleston.
