Wagner/Wagner and Jackson/Johnson Highlight LBSU's Final Regular Season Action

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Ciana Wagner and Morea Wagner captured the Bracket C championship Saturday at the Big West Challenge, leading the 49ers in pairs play in the final day of the regular season. Janisa Johnson and Tyler Jackson also represented LBSU in a championship match, reaching the finals of Bracket A.
Pairs play at the Big West Challenge on Saturday was broken into three single-elimination brackets based on dual placement. Joy Miley and Makayla Taylor advanced to the semifinals of Bracket C, defeating Perez/Jones of Irvine Valley 21-14, 21-15, but then lost to Riggs/Tucker of Hawai'i in a tough three-set match 23-21, 18-21, 15-9.
The Wagner twins, who advanced to the finals with a 21-14, 21-19 win over Higgins and Rooks of Hawai'i, exacted a measure of revenge against Riggs/Tucker with a 21-18, 18-21, 15-11 win in the finals of that bracket.
In Bracket B, Jenelle Hudson and Alex Reid advanced to the semifinals with a 21-15, 21-8 win over Radecki/Kolodzeiej of Irvine Valley. In the semifinals, both Long Beach State pairs were defeated in three sets by their Hawaiian counterparts in two tough matches. Hudson and Reid fell to Longo/Long 21-10, 19-21, 15-11, while Chelsea Cabrajac and Bre Mackie dropped their match with Chow/Urban 24-22, 11-21, 15-10.
In the top bracket, Delainey Aigner-Swesey and Bojana Todorovic defeated Doran/Peckich of Irvine Valley 21-16, 21-10 to advance to the semifinals, falling to Cook/Tiegs of Hawai'i 21-13, 21-16. Jackson and Johnson won a thrilling match with Spieler/Taylor of UH, outlasting the pair 21-15, 18-21, 25-23 in an exciting third set. Cook and Tiegs finished the day unbeaten, however, defeating Jackson and Johnson 21-12, 21-10 in the Bracket A finals.
Long Beach State will wait to see if the team or any pairs are invited to compete at the AVCA National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. The competition begins on Friday, May 2.
