49ers Conclude Home Schedule With 5-0 Win Over Grand Canyon

Long Beach, Calif. - No. 2 Long Beach State swept Grand Canyon in its final home match of the 2013 season, winning all five matches in straight sets on the way to a 5-0 victory. For the 49ers, it also marked the final home match for Caitlin Ledoux, Lauren Minkel, and Jocelyn Neely.
Long Beach State's fourth flight, Minkel/Neely, had a convincing win in their final home match, routing Megan Davis and Brittney Spackman 21-6, 21-6 as Neely made nine total aces in the quick victory Tuesday.
That match was part of three early wins in the first three matches, as Janisa Johnson and Tyler Jackson defeated Jessica Posse and Kaitlyn Ausmus 21-10, 21-16 behind 13 kills and four aces from Jackson, while Libby Fontanilla and Bre Mackie outlasted Caelen Hiller and Chloe Jenkins in the first set on the way to a 23-21, 21-12 victory. Mackie made five blocks in the second set to help the 49ers rally to the win.
In the final two matches, Ledoux and Tara Roenicke defeated Kenzie Phelps and Shannon Dugan in the top flight 21-13, 21-17, while Delainey Aigner-Swesey and Chelsea Cabrajac also won in straight sets in their second match playing together this season, winning 21-12, 21-17.
Long Beach State (14-2) finishes the regular season this weekend by participating in the USAV Invitational. The tournament begins Saturday with pool play, where the 49ers will begin their day by facing USC at 10 a.m. The 49erwill then play LMU at Noon before taking on CSU Bakersfield at 2 p.m. The winner of that pool's round robin will then play the winner of the other pool at 3:30 p.m. to determine a team champion. Pairs play will be held Sunday in three flights beginning at 9 a.m.
