April 16, 2013
Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State improved to 13-2 on the season, defeating CSU Bakersfield 5-0 on Tuesday, winning all five matches in straight sets.
Head coach Matt Ulmer made a few tweaks to the lineup on Tuesday, but the changes all worked as the 49ers easily won all five matches.
In fact, the closest match of the day came in the only flight without change, as Tara Roenicke and Caitlin Ledoux faced a scare in the first set against Shayna Guitare and Mariah Alvidrez, falling behind 19-14. The 49ers top duo made a push to tie the set however, and ultimately prevailed 24-22 in the first set before winning the second set 21-15.
Delainey Aigner-Swesey joined a new partner in Chelsea Cabrajac in the second flight, and the pair cruised to a 21-7, 21-14 win over Deb Araujo and Yuan Fu 21-7, 21-14 behind 14 combined aces, seven each from the pair.
The unbeaten duo of Tyler Jackson and Janisa Johnson moved up to No. 4 on Tuesday, but had no problems as Johnson finished with 11 kills and Jackson made seven aces, including six in the second set on the way to a 21-6, 21-10 victory, while Lauren Minkel and Jocelyn Neely rounded out the day, winning 21-11, 21-5 over Fernanda Gonsalves and Sara Little.
The 49ers finish off their home schedule this Thursday, when they host Grand Canyon at 1 p.m. at the LBSU Sand Courts.
