Long Beach, Calif. - No. 6 Long Beach State picked up a pair of important wins on Sunday, defeating No. 16 Loyola Marymount 5-0 and Utah 4-1 after honoring their seniors prior to the start of the day.

In an important win for the postseason push, Long Beach State (22-4) swept Loyola Marymount (19-13) to kick off the day, winning every match in straight sets. Claire Newlander entered the lineup at No. 4, playing with Nicci Reinking, and the pair started the day with a 21-14, 21-18 win, while Megan Kruidhof and Rachel Nieto dropped Sara Kovac and Jess Prichard 21-18, 21-14 at the twos.

Nele Barber and Sasha Karelov won 21-17, 21-19 over McKayla Ferris and Savannah Slattery in the top flight, while Hannah Matt and Marisa Ramsey remained comfortable after moving back to the fives, winning 21-11, 21-19 over Kristen Castellanos and Cierra Simpson. Hailey Harward and Zoi Konstantopoulou closed out the sweep by holding off Emma Doud and Chloe Reinig in a 21-16, 29-27 win.

Nieto recorded her 80th win at Long Beach State in the second match of the day, once again defeating Melissa Powell and Tawnee Luafalemana of Utah (1-8) at No. 2 21-10, 21-15. Matt and Ramsey continued their winning streak at No. 5 with a 21-10, 21-10 win, and Newlander, playing with Alexis Patterson at No. 4, battled to a 16-21, 21-19, 15-11 win at No. 4 to seal the match after the first round of play.

Harward and Reinking paired up at the threes in a 21-12, 21-9 win at No. 3, but the match of the day came in the top flight in a back and forth thriller between Barber/Karelov and Adora Anae and Dani Barton of Utah.

The 49er duo prevailed yesterday in a great match 21-18, 22-20, and the balance between the two teams continued into Sunday. Long Beach State won the first set 24-22 but dropped the second 21-18. In the third set to 15, teams must win by two, and the match pushed for nine extra points until Utah ultimately grabbed a lone win, taking the third set by a 26-24 margin.

The end of season push continues with three ranked opponents coming up this week. First, Long Beach State will head to Los Angeles where they will play No. 15 Grand Canyon and the hosts, No. 4 USC on Tuesday. The Beach will then host their final home match of the year Thursday afternoon when No. 1 UCLA comes to the LBSU Sand Courts at 1 p.m.
