Janisa Johnson and Tyler Jackson lead 49ers in pairs play at USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge
April 15, 2012
Long Beach State had two pairs in the silver draw, and both played well. Both Jackson/Johnson and Lauren Minkel and Jocelyn Neely reached the semifinals, with Minkel and Neely falling to Christiaansen and Cook of Pepperdine 21-15, 21-11, while Jackson and Johnson reached the finals with a win over USC's Duddridge/Thornberry. Jackson and Johnson finished the day with a measure of revenge, however, defeating Christiaansen/Cook 21-15, 21-18.
In the gold draw, Long Beach State had one opening round winner, as Caitlin Ledoux and Tara Roenicke defeated Crouse/Maxfeldt of LMU before falling to Pepperdine's Frederick/Hill. Haleigh Hampton and Bre Mackie were winners in the back draw, defeating Hawaii's Nordyke/Vorster 21-17, 21-16.
Long Beach State finishes the regular season on tomorrow, April 16, when the 49ers host Hawaii at 10:30 a.m. at the sand courts on campus at Long Beach State. The 49ers will then have the opportunity to travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama to participate in the first national championship for Sand Volleyball, hosted by the AVCA if they are selected as the at-large representative from the West.
