April 5, 2012
Malibu, Calif. - Long Beach State came close once again, but the 49ers were unable to defeat Pepperdine on the road, falling 3-2 despite picking up a win once again in the top flight from Caitlin Ledoux and Tara Roenicke.
Ledoux and Roenicke faced a different pair from the teams' last meeting in Long Beach, but the result was the same as the 49ers came out on top. The 49er duo took a 21-15 win in the first set against Lilla Frederick and Kim Hill, and then held off the Waves in the second set 22-20.
Long Beach State's other win came in a battle in the fifth flight, as Tyler Jackson and Janisa Johnson defeated Michaela Christiaansen and Emily Cook of Pepperdine 21-15 in the first set, lost the second 15-21, and then outlasted the pair in the third 15-13 to grab the win.
The 49ers were unable to get the victory however, losing the other three matches on the day. Former world junior champion Summer Ross teamed with Caitlin Racich in a 21-7, 21-9 over Libby Fontanilla and Haleigh Hampton in the second flight, and Kellie Woolever and Victoria Adelhelm defeated Chelsea Cabrajac and Bre Mackie 21-13, 21-6 in the fourth flight.
With the loss, Long Beach State falls to 2-3, while Pepperdine moves to 6-0 on the season, but the 49ers remain the only team to win any matches in duals against the Waves. The 49ers will next play in the USAV Tournament before hosting their last matches on April 16.
