Mike Campbell Named Big West Coach of the Year While Eight Players Honored As All-Big West

Nele Barber/Rachel Nieto and Sasha Karelov/Kobi Pekich received first-team accolades.

Long Beach State (2017): A first-team All-Big West selection in her first year at Long Beach State … Posted a 22-13 overall record while playing exclusively with Kobi Pekich … Went 20-12 at No. 2, their primary flight … Set the single season and career pairs wins records at No. 2 in the process … Also shared the single-season individual wins record … Needs nine wins at No. 2 in 2018 to become the career leader in wins at the flight … Led the team with 371 digs on the season … Made 19 kills to tie a season-high in her debut against Irvine Valley … Won four straight matches to open the season … Won 21-13, 21-17 over Dunn/Lind of Stetson to seal a 3-2 win over the Hatters … Won eight straight matches during the year, including wins over Tan/Yeomans of UCLA and Schucht/Taylor of Hawai’i … Made 16 kills and nine digs in the 21-15, 21-15 win against the Rainbow Wahine … Claimed a three-set win over Schwan/Strickland of Washington 21-13, 19-21, 15-10 … 21-9, 21-17 winners over Halllaran/McDonald of #8 Arizona in a big win for postseason selection … Playing at No. 3 at the NCAA Championships, did not finish against Pepperdine and then lost a heartbreaker in the deciding match against LSU, falling 14-21, 21-19, 17-15 to Lindelow/Powers of LSU.

Duke: An Honorable Mention All-American at Duke, where she played four seasons as the team’s libero … The 2016 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, making 634 digs for the Blue Devils, an average of 5.42 per set … Also averaged over an assist per set with 16 aces in 2016 … A three-time All-Region selection, earning first-team honors as a senior … Finished her career with 2,023 digs, ranking third in Duke history and 9th in ACC history … Earned first-team All-ACC honors as a senior and was also a three-time All-ACC selection … Averaged over five digs per set in each of her final three seasons at Duke.

High School: A four-year letterwinner at Leesville Road High School in Raleigh … Was the No. 55 Prep Volleyball Senior ace and the No. 1 recruit in North Carolina coming out of high school as a libero/defensive specialist … Went 27-1 and were state runner-ups in her senior season … Finished the season with 315 kills, 330 digs and 74 aces … Led Leesville in digs and aces for three seasons … Named the Cap Eight Conference Player of the Year after making 363 kills and 90 aces as a junior.

Personal: Parents are Evgeni and Marina Karelov … Mother was a member of the Belarus National volleyball team from 1984-86 … Interned with North Carolina congressman Scott Peters in the summer of 2016 … A graduate transfer student.
