Long Beach State Places Two Pairs On Beach Volleyball All-Big West Team

Nele Barber, Rachel Nieto, Kobi Pekich and Sammee Thomas all receive first-team honors.

Career: Enters 2018 with 41 career wins with Rachel Nieto, needing 20 to tie the school record set by Janisa Johnson and Tyler Jackson … Holds the individual flight one victories record along with Nieto … One of two players in the NCAA Championship Beach Volleyball era to be named an All-American in both Beach Volleyball and Women’s Volleyball in the same season in 2016-17.

Long Beach State Beach Volleyball (2017): A first-team All-American after leading Long Beach State to its first NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship appearance … Also named First-Team All-Big West … Played all season at No. 1 with Rachel Nieto, finishing the year with a 25-11 overall record … Tied the old school record with the 25 wins in one season, and set a new school mark for wins in the top flight with Nieto … Started the season with 14 consecutive wins … That run included wins over Andrew/Kuhlman of Florida State, Allen/Allmer of LSU, Knudsen/Roh of Pepperdine, and Slattery/Sponcil of LMU … Finished with 18 kills and 12 digs in the win over Knudsen/Roh … Took her first loss of the season against McNamara/McNamara of UCLA … Grabbed victories on the way to 3-2 team wins over both Hawai’i and Cal Poly at the Big West Challenge ... Won 21-18, 22-20 vs. Martin/Tucker of UH with 14 kills, and 21-19, 21-13 against Hubbard/Sonny of Cal Poly … Was the team’s leader in blocks with 62 on the year … Made 25 kills against Coppola/Nuss in the NCAA Championships, tied for 8th in school history.

(2016): A first-team All-Big West selection in her first season … Started the season with Sammee Thomas, then partnered with Rachel Nieto with whom she earned all-league honors … Went 16-10 with Nieto, including 8-1 at No. 2 … With Nieto was the team’s primary pair at No. 1, going 6-7 … Second on the team with 410 kills on the year, hitting .347 … Also finished with 30 blocks, second on the team … Won first three matches with Nieto, including a 21-16, 16-21, 16-14 win over Bukovec/Strange of USC … Made a season-high 27 kills on .548 in a three-set win over Bonomi/Schulz of Arizona … Won six straight matches at No. 2 before moving to the top flight … Went 2-2 at the Big West Championships, falling in three sets in the championship match with Hawai’i.

Long Beach State Volleyball: A star for Long Beach State, Barber was a two-time first-team All-Big West selection in her two seasons at Long Beach State … An Honorable Mention All-American and first-team All-Region selection as a senior … Team went 46-16 in her two seasons … Led Long Beach State in both kills and digs in each of her two seasons … Recorded 45 double-doubles in her two seasons at LBSU, and averaged 4.10 kills and 3.51 digs per set as a senior … Played in every set in each of the last two seasons.

Marquette: A two-year starter at outside hitter for Marquette … Made 314 kills and 271 digs over the course of the 2014 season … Named to the All-Big East Championship team after averaging 4.25 kills per set and hitting .460 while leading the Golden Eagles to the championship with wins over Butler and Creighton.

High School: Competed for the Germany Junior National Team for indoor volleyball with more than 80 appearances from 201-13 ... Averaged 2.33 kills per set and hit .320 at the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championshipp … Also helped lead Germany to a fourth-place finish in the 2011 CEV Youth Volleyball European Championship
