The Big West today announced the addition of sand volleyball as the conference’s 17th-sponsored sport, which will begin its first year of competition in 2015-16.
Long Beach State placed two pairs into the 16-team, single elimination tournament held Sunday at the AVCA National Championships, but each dropped their first match to finish off the 2015 season.

The third time was the charm for Long Beach State, as the seventh-seeded 49ers defeated (2) Hawai'i 3-1 to open up an outstanding day at the AVCA National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. After their first win, the 49ers defeated (3) Florida International 4-1, and will face (1) USC in the winners bracket championship Saturday morning.
