Long Beach State Softball Has Five Named All-Big West

May 18, 2016

Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Darian Tautalafua and junior Christina Clermont both earned first-team All-Big West honors, highlighting five 49ers who were named to the team as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Tautalafua was named first-team All-Big West for the third time in her career and merited All-Big West selection for the fourth straight season. Tautalafua led the Beach in nearly every offensive category, setting single-season records in home runs with 15 and RBI with 54 while hitting .346 and slugging a league-best .713.

She was joined on the first team by Clermont, as the LBSU starting pitcher was named to the first-team for the second time in two seasons at the Beach. Leading the Big West in strikeouts, wins and saves, Clermont won 10 games in league play while posting a 1.61 ERA in a conference high 113.1 innings pitched.

The Beach had two players earn second-team All-Big West honors in sophomore Julia Lombardi and senior Alley Perkins. An All-Freshman team selection one season ago, Lombardi was third on the team in batting, hitting .317 on the season and led the Beach in doubles with 10 on the season. Perkins, a transfer from Tennessee, hit .323 on the season for LBSU, led the team in stolen bases and had an 11-game hitting streak in Big West play, the longest of the season for the Beach.

Rounding out the honors was freshman Kelli Finan. The outfielder led Long Beach State in hitting during conference play at .314, hitting three doubles and a home run in 15 games played. Finan earned double honors, picked as an Honorable Mention All-Big West in addition to being the sole 49er named to the All-Freshman Team.

Long Beach State's season continues on Friday, as the Beach plays Baylor to begin postseason play in the NCAA Eugene Regional. The entire regional will be televised live, including the opening game against the Bears at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
