Julia Lombardi Claims Final Big West Player Of The Week Award
The senior is the fourth different Long Beach State player to earn the award in 2018.
Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Julia Lombardi was named the Big West Player of the Week, earning the award for the second time in her career as the Big West Conference season came to a close.
Lombardi went 5-for-9 from the plate the Long Beach State’s final series at CSUN, driving in five RBI and helping the Beach close out the season with a series victory.
Her two-run homer in the opening game of the series would prove to be a difference, giving the Beach the winning run in a 7-6 victory, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. In game two, Lombardi had a pair of RBI singles on the way to a win, and hit a solo home run in the final game of the series, tying the game in the sixth inning.
With her selection, Lombardi joins Naomi Hernandez, Nichole Fry and Taylor Rowland as Big West Player of the Week recipients, and is the sixth player honored among the weekly awards in total, as Cielo Meza and Jessica Flores have both received Big West Pitcher of the Week honors.
Long Beach State continues the 2018 season with a trip to the NCAA Regionals, opening the postseason on Friday, May 18 at 4 p.m. against Ole Miss.
