May 14, 2015

Long Beach, Calif. - Sophomore Christina Clermont picked up a second major honor in two days, as the Co-Big West Pitcher of the Year was named a Second-Team NFCA West All-Region selection as voted on by the region's coaches. Catcher Lauren Lombardi was a Third-Team selection, as the two sophomores represented the 49ers in the precursor to All-America selection.

Clermont became the sixth 49er pitcher named Big West Pitcher of the Year after an outstanding campaign in 2015. Posting a 20-7 record and a 2.35 ERA on the season, Clermont struck out 179 batters, fifth-most in one season in Long Beach State history.

The sophomore threw the eighth perfect game in Long Beach State history against an NCAA Tournament team in New Mexico State, and was tremendous in Big West play. Clermont led the conference in wins with 14, strikeouts with 81, and opposing batting average, holding Big West hitters to a .205 mark.

More impressive, was that in 14 starts in conference play, Clermont completed 13 games, with her only non-complete game an 8.0 inning performance against UC Riverside.

Her battery partner, Lauren Lombardi, also had a tremendous season on the way to All-Region honors. A first-team All-Big West selection, Lombardi set the Long Beach State single-season record for RBI with 52, and hit a team-high 11 home runs while starting 40 games behind the plate, and all 52 over the course of the season.

Over the year, Lombardi slugged .622, a team high, while also leading the team in doubles with 13 and hitting .346, second on the team and ninth in the Big West.

Both players are now eligible for All-America honors, which will be announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in the coming weeks.
