Long Beach, Calif. - Freshman Lauren Lombardi drove in six RBI while hitting .500 (6-for-12) on the road against UC Santa Barbara, helping Long Beach State move past the Gauchos to take the Big West Conference Championship.

In Friday's opening game, Lombardi had three hits, the most important of which came in the seventh inning, blasting a two-run home run to give Long Beach State the lead in a 7-5 victory.

Three more hits would come on Saturday. With the winner between Long Beach State and UCSB taking the championship, Lombardi hit a grand slam, giving The Beach a 9-6 lead and pulling the 49ers all the way out of a 6-0 deficit to start the game.

Later, with the score tied, a single by Lombardi gave The Beach a critical base runner in the 9th inning, a run that would prove to be the difference in a 10-9 extra inning victory.

Much of the 49ers success this season can be traced to the team's offensive balance. Lombardi becomes the fifth different LBSU player feted by the conference this season, joining Ashley Holmes, Karli Sandoval, Leilani Tupua-Tautalatasi, and Ashlynn Booker.

It is the first honor of the freshman's career. Additionally, two players have garnered Big West Pitcher of the Week honors, with Erin Jones-Wesley winning twice and Amanda Hansen once.
