Irvine, Calif. -- For the third time in the last five weeks, Long Beach State junior Erin Jones-Wesley (Alta Loma, Calif./Los Osos HS) captured Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week accolades as she tossed a pair of shutouts against conference foe UC Davis.
The two wins by Jones-Wesley led to a series sweep by the 49ers as they outscored the Aggies 9-1 in three meetings. LBSU closed out conference play 17-7 to remain in contention for a share of the Big West championship.
Jones-Wesley kicked off the series with a one-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory. She held a no-hitter into the top of the fourth before surrendering the Aggies' only hit. Jones-Wesley finished with two walks and six strikeouts in the 93-pitch outing.
In Sunday's eight-inning victory, Jones-Wesley notched her second consecutive shutout and positioned the 49ers for success until a bases loaded hit by pitch secured the 1-0 victory. The right-hander allowed five hits and one walk while fanning six as she improved to 19-8 on the season and lowered her ERA to 2.53.
