Hansen Pitches 49ers Past Matadors
The Long Beach State softball team (26-15, 8-2) knocked off Cal State Northridge (15-24, 1-6) on Wednesday afternoon (1-0) as Amanda Hansen got the win and Hannah De Gaetano hit the game-winning RBI.

LBSU is 53-42 all-time against the Matadors and has also won the last 10 series between the two schools. Long Beach is 75-36-1 versus the Gauchos, but lost the last series meeting in 2012.

LAST TIME OUT: The 49ers dropped their first Big West series of the season as two of the three games went to extra innings. LBSU won game one (7-6, 8 inn.), but lost the final two (5-4, 9 inn./6-5). Nalani St. Germain broke the LBSU career home run record during the series.

ST. GERMAIN BREAKS LBSU CAREER HOME RUN RECORD: After hitting a home run in each of the two games in the doubleheader at Pacific on April 13, Nalani St. Germain broke the career school record for home runs and now ranks first with 26. She also ranks in the top 10 in several other categories including runs (2nd), RBI (3rd), doubles (3rd), walks (4th) and stolen bases (4thT). The senior needs just nine runs to tie the school record and just six RBI to equal that record.

TAUTALAFUA COULD BREAK RECORDS THIS SEASON: Freshman Darian Tautalafua, who has been named the Big West Field Player of the Week twice this season, is currently tied for fifth in home runs with nine and is ninth in RBI with 37. She needs just six more RBI and five home runs to set single season records for the 49ers. The freshman ranks second in the conference in RBI (15) and tied for fourth in home runs (4). She has also been walked 12 times, the second-highest number for a player in Big West action.

KIMBROUGH HITS FIRST HOME RUN AT PACIFIC: Starting short stop Shayna Kimbrough hit her first career home run at Pacific on April 14 and is currently fifth in the conference in hits with 16. Kimbrough also is now tied for 10th in the LBSU single season record list for stolen bases.

DE GAETANO'S BAT LEADS THE 49ERS: Third baseman Hannah De Gaetano currently leads LBSU in batting average, hitting .376, while tallying 21 RBI (4th-most on the team). During the Pacific series, she had five hits and scored two runs and hit her fifth home run on the season.

HOLMES TIES SINGLE-GAME RECORD FOR HOME RUNS: Ashley Holmes tied the single-game school record for home runs (2) at Pacific on April 13, hitting two in LBSU's extra inning victory over the Tigers. On the season, Holmes has hit six home runs, and needs just two more to crack the all-time single season top-10. SANDOVAL NOW TIED FOR 6TH ALL-TIME IN SINGLE SEASON HOME RUNS: Senior Karli Sandoval now ranks tied for sixth all-time in single season homeruns with eight after hitting another at Pacific on April 13. Sandoval also had an eight-game hitting streak that was snapped in the series with Cal State Fullerton, the longest for any 49er in 2013.

JONES-WESLEY PITCHERS NO-HITTER VS. FRESNO STATE: Junior Erin Jones-Wesley recorded her first no-hitter since the 2011 season, and the third of her career, when the 49ers defeated Fresno State 8-0 at the San Diego State Classic on March 3. On the season, she is 14-7 with 12 complete games and an ERA of 2.89 overall. Jones-Wesley sat out of action for two weeks with a sore shoulder, but returned against UC Riverside on March 29 to post her 11th win of the season. She earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors after posting two wins against Cal State Fullerton.

HANSEN MOVES UP IN BIG WEST RANKINGS: Sophomore Amanda Hansen has moved into the Big West top 10 in several categories. She is 10th in ERA for Big West play (2.32), third for innings pitched (45.1), fifth for batters struck out (19), tied for fourth in wins (3) and tied for first in saves (1).
