April 14, 2014
Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Erin Jones-Wesley had another excellent week of pitching, helping the 49ers to a sweep of Hawai'i, earning Big West Pitcher of the Week after picking up two more wins. The senior pitcher has now been honored 15 times in her career, a Big West record.
Jones-Wesley started her week with an 11-strikeout performance in a complete game in the opener against the Rainbow Wahine.
Despite earning the win in the opener with just four hits, the senior was even more dominant on Sunday. Striking out eight over 7.0 innings, the senior completed her 28th career shutout, allowing one single on the day while improving to 18-4 on the season with a 0.86 ERA in conference play.
For Jones-Wesley, it is the second time the senior has been honored this season, and the 15th award in her career. That breaks her tie with another Long Beach State pitcher, Brooke Turner, who was named the Big West Pitcher of the Week 14 times from 2008-2011.
