Softball Hosts Colorado State; Heads to Cal Poly to Start Big West Play

The Long Beach State softball team (18-12) will host Colorado State (12-14) on Tuesday at the 49er Softball Complex at 1:30 pm before heading to San Luis Obispo to start Big West Play against Cal Poly (10-17) on Saturday (DH) and Sunday. Both games in San Luis Obispo start at noon.

Last season, the 49ers lost to Colorado State, 7-6, at the Cathedral City Classic, while they swept the season series versus Cal Poly (4-1, 3-2. 2-1).

LBSU is coming off of a 3-2 finish in its final tournament of the season, the San Diego State Classic II, notching wins against Massachusetts, Miami (OH) and Harvard, while falling to Fairfield and San Jose State.

In the latest Big West standings, Long Beach ranks second in batting average (.286), slugging percentage (.431) and on base percentage (.353), while leading the league in runs scored (142), hits (232) and RBI (127). The 49ers also rank second in home runs (24) and triples (7), and fourth in doubles (32).

The 49ers have tallied the most batters struck out looking (54) and are second in batters struck out with 200.

In the individual conference rankings, Hannah De Gaetano ranks first in batting average (.387), while Shayna Kimbrough is third (.370). De Gaetano also ranks third in slugging percentage (.600) and fifth in on base percentage (.440). Nalani St. Germain ranks third for runs scored (21), with Kimbrough right behind her in fourth (21). Kimbrough leads the league in hits (40), while St. Germain is third (33). Karli Sandoval ranks second in RBI (23), with Darian Tautalafua in third (22) and De Gaetano tied for fifth (19). Sandoval also ranks second in home runs (6) and Tautalafua is tied for fourth (5).

Brianna Stephan and Kimbrough are tied for second in the conference for triples (2), while Kimbrough is tied for fourth in stolen bases (11).

In pitching numbers, Erin Jones-Wesley ranks second in innings pitched (98.2), batters struck out (134) and batters struck out looking (35). She is also third in wins (9).
