Lombardi Earns Big West Player Of The Week Honors

Long Beach, Calif. -- - Julia Lombardi earned Long Beach State’s first Player of the Week award for the 2016 after leading the Beach to a 4-1 weekend at the Louisville Slugger Invitational.

Lombardi went 8-for-15 with a pair of doubles and five RBI over five games at Long Beach State’s home tournament.

The sophomore started off the weekend with a 3-for-3 game against Utah Valley, then followed with a pair of hits in a win over Mississippi State. Against Iowa State in Long Beach State’s comeback win, Lombardi hit a double and then an RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lombardi closed the weekend with two hits and two RBI against Princeton, as well as turning the game-ending double play, throwing out the tying runner at the plate.

Long Beach State will participate in one more non-conference tournament this weekend, playing five games in San Diego.
