Meza Named Big West Pitcher Of The Week

March 5, 2018

Long Beach, Calif. - Sophomore Cielo Meza continued her tremendous start the season with another fine week of pitching at the San Diego Classic, and was rewarded with Big West Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time this season.

Meza threw the 27th no-hitter in school history, and the second of her career, against a ranked team in No. 21 Minnesota, the highlight in a dominant week in the circle. Against the Golden Gophers, Meza walked one and struck out 11 batters in one of two complete game shutouts.

Over three appearances, Meza gave up just one single, throwing 17.0 total innings and going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. She went the distance, striking out five with one hit in a 2-0 win at San Diego. The sophomore also pitched three innings of hitless, and scoreless, relief against UCF, striking out five.

Meza lowered her ERA to 1.31, and has now struck out 94 batters this season, best in the Big West.
