Nichole Fry Wins First Big West Player Of The Week Award Of The Season
The sophomore hit .500 at the Beach Kickoff Classic.
Long Beach, Calif. - Sophomore Nichole Fry was named the Big West Player of the Week for the first week of the season after a tremendous weekend at the Beach Kickoff Classic.
Fry helped Long Beach State to a 3-1-1 record over the first week of the season, including wins over No. 22 Notre Dame and San Diego State. The sophomore hit .500 and reached base at a .632 rate, slugging .833 on the weekend.
Fry hit two doubles and a triple as part of a 6-for-12 weekend, and also walked four times and was hit by a pitch twice. She scored four times and also drove in four RBI, and ranks among the Big West’s leaders in nearly every offensive category after week one.
The sophomore played a big part in each of the team’s wins on the weekend. After hitting a two-run triple against South Dakota, she went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and run scored against Notre Dame, and closed the weekend with a 2-for-3 day in the LBSU win over the Aztecs.
The award is the first career player of the week honor for Fry, who started all five games last week at shortstop for Long Beach State.
