TEMPE, Ariz. - Long Beach State dropped a pair of games at the Tempe Regional in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. The 49ers fell 8-0 in the first game of the day to No. 1 Arizona State and then dropped a 6-4 nine-inning game to San Diego State in the final game of the night.

Game 1: Arizona State 8, Long Beach State 0 (5)

Top-ranked Arizona State hit three home runs en route to an 8-0 win over Long Beach State in the winner's bracket of the Tempe Regional on Saturday afternoon. Long Beach State will play the winner of the San Diego State-North Dakota State game tonight at 8 p.m.

Arizona State took control with a big second inning. After a leadoff pop out, the Sun Devils scored five runs on three hits with a pair of walks. Sam Parlich put ASU on the board with a two-run home run scoring Mandy Urfer, who walked.

After another walk and a bunt base hit, Katelyn Boyd blasted a three-run shot over the wall in left field to put the Sun Devils up 5-0. ASU added a run in the top of the fourth on an Annie Lockwood double, and scored two more in the fifth, the first on a solo home run by Urfer.

The 49ers finished with just two hits, one by Liz Javier and one by Sarah Carrasco. Erin Jones-Wesley took the loss to fall to 23-7 on the season. She gave up just seven hits, but walked seven as well. Dallas Escobedo moved her record to 29-3 while striking out eight 49ers.

Game 2: San Diego State 6, Long Beach State 4 (9)

Hayley Miles hit a pair of home runs, the second coming in the bottom of the ninth inning, to end Long Beach State's season in Tempe on Saturday night.

The 49ers took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first, thanks to some help from Aztec pitcher Sam Beasley. After a one-out single by Catrin DeBaun and a pair of outs, Beasley walked two in a row, hit Christina Schallig to drive in the first run, and then walked Dana Garcia to give the 49ers a 2-0 lead.

Miles responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the second, but Long Beach State got it back in the second. Nalani St. Germain delivered a two-out RBI double to right center field to score Megan Denio and give LBSU a 3-1 lead.

The Aztecs tied the score with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI double by Lorena Klopp and a RBI fielder's choice by Ashley Rose.

Megan Denio put the 49ers back on top 4-3 in the top of the sixth with a RBI double scoring Karli Sandoval.

San Diego State (35-20) tied it in the bottom of the seventh and then ended the 49ers (38-18) season on a two-run walk off home run by Miles in the bottom of the ninth.
