Karli Sandoval had two of LBSU's seven hits

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to break open a scoreless game and then held off Long Beach State 3-1 in Big West Conference softball game on Sunday at La Rue Field.

Shayna Kimbrough went 3-for-3 with a run scored to lead the 49ers, while Karli Sandoval was 2-for-3. Hannah De Gaetano and Leilani Tupua-Tautalatasi had LBSU's other two hits. The 49ers (18-21, 6-3 Big West) stranded nine runners on base.

Kelly Harman led off the fourth inning with a double into the right field corner for the Aggies (16-24, 6-3 Big West) and came around to score on a single by J.J. Wagoner. Kelly Schulze added a RBI single to give UCD a 2-0 lead.

The 49ers cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth inning when Kimbrough scored on a bases loaded walk by Nalani St. Germain. Kimbrough reached on a one-out single, advanced to second on a Megan Denio walk and moved to third on an error by the Harman at shortstop on a ball hit by De Gaetano.

Davis got the run back in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Amy Nunez, her second of the season.

Erin Jones-Wesley (14-11) took the loss for the 49ers. She gave up two runs on four hits in 3.2 innings. Justine Vela (12-10) got the win for UCD allowing just one run in five innings. Jessica Thweatt picked up her first save.
