Hansen Pitches 49ers Past Matadors
Amanda Hansen pitched a complete scoreless game as LBSU won 1-0 on Wednesday.
April 10, 2013
After two scoreless and hitless innings for both teams to start the game, CSUN finally got two hits in the third, but couldn't convert any into runs. With LBSU up to bat, the 49ers were finally able to get on the board after a single by Hannah De Gaetano, followed by a throwing error by the second baseman allowed Emily Gregorio to score.
Both teams couldn't get much offense going in the fourth inning as Northridge retired the first three 49er batters and then could only manage a walk to get on base during its at bat.
In the top of the fifth, CSUN had a chance to tie the game, but the base runner was thrown out at home to end the Matador at bat. In the bottom of the fifth, Shayna Kimbrough opened up with a nice single up the middle to get on first. Leilani Tupua-Tautalatasi followed with another single up the middle to put runners on first and second. The Matadors then made a pitching change as Hannah De Gaetano was up to bat with one out on the board. A double play by Northridge ended the inning as the 49ers continued to lead 1-0.
In the top of the sixth, Hansen walked the first Matador batter. Then, with two outs on the board, Hansen gave up a double to left center field and the runner on first stalled out at third base. Hansen worked out of the jam and got out of the inning without giving up a run after the next batter was thrown out at first. The 49ers were able to get a runner on base after a fielder's choice play by Nalani St. Germain, but she was left stranded as LBSU continued to lead 1-0.
After a quick out to start the top of the seventh, Hansen then hit the Matador batter, putting the tying run on first. The next Matador batter popped up to the short stop, Kimbrough, who then threw out the runner at first to end the game and give LBSU its eighth Big West win of the season.
Hansen improves to 7-5 on the season after pitching a complete game with just two walks and zero earned runs.
The 49ers travel to Stockton to take on Pacific, who started the week tied with the 49ers at 7-2 in the conference. The Tigers played a doubleheader with UC Davis on Wednesday, losing the first game (1-0) while winning the second (5-4). The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00 pm and a single game on Sunday (12:00 pm).
