San Diego, Calif. -

Long Beach State picked up a second win on Thursday, rallying to beat Ohio State 5-3 in the team’s second game in the San Diego Classic. Freshman Tierra Falo had four RBI with two hits to lead the Beach to the win.

Ohio State (11-7) struck first in the top of the first inning, as catcher Cammi Prantl hit a solo home run to get the Buckeyes on the board. Long Beach State (17-9) had an immediate answer in the bottom half of the inning. LT Torres singled to start the 49er half, and then a double from Falo scored the sophomore to tie the game. A second straight double, this time from Darian Tautalafua, brought home Falo to give the Beach a 2-1 lead.

The Buckeyes retook the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. A one-out double from Emily Clark got the Ohio State rally started. A single and a walk loaded the bases for the Buckeyes, and a sacrifice fly tied the game. Prantl then singled for her second RBI of the game as Ohio State took the lead, but with the bases loaded, reliever Skie Munoz picked up a flyout from Ashley Goodwin to end the inning with the Beach within one.

The Beach rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab the victory. Irma Sanchez led off the inning with single, and after a fielder’s choice, Alley Perkins and Torres singled to load the bases with one out.

Ohio State cut down a run at the plate on a groundout from Haley Tobler, but Falo came through for Long Beach State, singling down the right field line and clearing the bases as the Beach took a 5-3 lead.

The Beach turned to Christina Clermont for the seventh inning, who set down the Buckeyes in order to earn the junior’s first save of the season.

Tournament play continues Friday for Long Beach State. The Beach opens against Illinois at 9 a.m., before taking on No. 22 Fresno State at 2 p.m.
