Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State had a fine day Saturday at San Diego State, closing out Texas-Arlington 8-0 in five innings before outlasting Harvard 6-5 in the 49ers' second game Saturday. Sarah Carrasco went 5-for-6 on the day to lead The Beach.

In the opener, the 49ers cruised past Texas-Arlington (13-14) for the second time on the weekend. Erin Jones-Wesley struck out 10 in 4.1 innings of work, holding the Mavericks to just one hit before allowing freshman Sydney Shipley in on the action, as the two combined on the run-rule shutout.

On the offensive end, Long Beach State (19-8) scored five runs in the first inning on five hits, and then added three more unearned runs, capitalizing on three Maverick errors on the way to the victory.

In the second game on the doubleheader, Long Beach State recovered from two damaging errors to come back and take a 6-5 win.

Harvard (6-5) struck first, scoring three runs in the second inning after an error by Amanda Hansen trying to cut down the lead runner with no outs. The 49ers were able to answer in the bottom half, taking advantage of a leadoff single from Karli Sandoval along with hits from Darian Tuatlafua, Sarah Carrasco, and Leilani Tupua-Tautalatasi.

A leadoff double by Sarah Carassco in the fourth inning was followed by an RBI single from Tupua-Tautalatasi to give Long Beach State the lead. A two-RBI double from Lauren Lombardi gave the 49ers a 6-3 lead.

With two outs in the seventh inning, an error scoring a two runs threatened the lead, but Amanda Hansen was able to collect a final groundout to finish off a complete game victory.

Long Beach State finishes the San Diego Classic II Sunday at 12:30 p.m., taking on Texas Tech.
