March 15, 2014
San Diego, Calif. - Shayna Kimbrough was 2-for-3 with a walk, but was stranded all three times as Long Beach State was unable to score in a 5-0 loss at San Diego State.
Long Beach State (17-8) had an early opportunity in the first inning, loading the bases with back-to-back hits from Ashley Holmes and Karli Sandoval, but Darian Tautalafua grounded into a double play to end the threat.
Meanwhile, San Diego State (18-7) took advantage of a Hannah De Gaetano error to take a 1-0 lead after one, and scored one more run in each of the first three innings as the leadoff batter reached in all three frames for the Aztecs.
Danielle O'Toole ended with a complete game shutout for the Aztecs, giving up six hits to improve to 14-3 on the season. Ariana Erceg and Selene Pola came on in relief of Erin Jones-Wesley after the third, who dropped to 9-4 with the loss.
The 49ers are back in action Saturday, playing UT-Arlington for the second time this weekend at 11:30 a.m. before facing Harvard immediately following.
