Lakewood, Calif. - After a first-inning Mississippi State home run, Cielo Meza stifled the bats for the Bulldogs until the Beach came through with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on the way to a 5-1 win.

Mississippi State (18-5) started things off with a bang, taking a first-inning home run Amanda Ivy, a solo shot that put the Bulldogs on top 1-0.

That would be the only damage of the day against freshman Cielo Meza, however. Striking out 10 in total, that home run was the only hit of the day for Mississippi State, as the Long Beach State (13-8) bats wouldn’t come alive for a while.

The Beach finally broke through in the fourth inning. LT Torres walked to start the inning, and after a sacrifice, scored on a single from Darian Tautalafua to tie the game at 1-1.

A Nichole Fry single started off the key rally for Long Beach State in the sixth inning. Lauren MacLeod then followed with her fourth home run of the season to give the Beach the lead, and three straight singles from Julia Lombardi, Haley Tobler and Tierra Falo brought in two more to give Long Beach State a 5-1 lead.

The Louisville Slugger Invitational continues this evening with a matchup for the 49ers against Iowa State. The Beach will then play No. 14 UCLA and Princeton to close the home tournament at Mayfair Park.
