49ers defeat Charleston Southern 6-1 at LBSU Invitational
Amanda Hansen allows only one run as Long Beach State improves to 13-8.

Lakewood, Calif. - Long Beach State got back on track Saturday night with a 6-1 victory over the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern. The victory marked the first win for the 49ers in the LB Invitational.
Amanda Hansen got Long Beach State off to a swift start setting Charleston Southern down in order. Hansen worked a perfect top of the first by recording two strikeouts and a ground out to shortstop.
For the third straight game, Shayna Kimbrough led off the bottom of the first with a solid single to center field and then stole second base. Brianna Stephan reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop and Kimbrough scored the first run of the game by virtue of an errant throw to third. Stephan advanced to second and was brought home by Hannah De Gaetano's single to make the score 2-0. The 49er attack continued when Nalani St. Germain scored on a sacrifice fly to left center by Sarah Carrasco pushing the lead to 3-0.
Hansen kept the Buccaneers off the scoreboard in the second, striking out two in the inning. After a productive first inning the Long Beach State bats were silenced in the bottom of the second when the 49ers went down in order.
The 49ers' bats erupted in the bottom of the fourth when Karli Sandoval lead off the inning with a towering homerun to center field to put Long Beach State on top 4-0. Carrasco followed with a double to left and scored two batters later when Leilani Tupua-Tautalatasi lined a triple to the gap in left center. Kimbrough continued the offensive production with a single to right, bringing in Tupua-Tautalatasi to extend the lead to 6-0.
Charleston Southern broke through with their first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning, compliments of an RBI double to left. Hansen held tough and limited the damage to just one run as the 49ers maintained their 6-1 advantage.
Selene Pola relieved Hansen in the top of the seventh inning and worked a perfect inning to seal the victory for the 49ers.
Long Beach State will continue tournament play on Sunday with a doubleheader, squaring off with North Dakota State at 1:30 pm and South Alabama at 6:00 pm. Both of the Sunday games will be played at Mayfair Park.
