Junior pitcher Erin Jones-Wesley capped off Long Beach State's (12-6) perfect weekend at the San Diego Classic I with her first no-hitter of the season as the 49ers run ruled Fresno State, winning 8-0.
The 49ers wrapped up play in San Diego undefeated on Sunday after defeating Fresno State for their fifth victory of the tournament. It was the second straight game in which the 49ers run-ruled a team.
In the bottom of the first, Shayna Kimbrough singled to center field to start the inning. She then stole second base and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Leilani Tupua-Tautalatasi. Hannah De Gaetano then flied out to center field and Kimbrough scored to put the 49ers up 1-0.
Kimbrough started the third inning off by reaching first base after an error by the short stop. She then advanced to second after a single by Tupua-Tautalatasi, and, after a sacrifice bunt by De Gaetano, advanced to third. After a fly out to right field by Karli Sandoval, Kimbrough was able to score to put The Beach up 2-0.
In the fourth inning, the 49ers picked up four more runs to extend their lead to 6-0. With bases loaded, St Germain singled to third base as Kimbrough scored. Darian Tautalafua then hit a triple to bring in St. Germain, De Gaetano and Tupua-Tautalatasi for three 49er runs.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the 49ers tacked on two more runs, ending the game due to the run rule. Brianna Stephan reached first base after an error by the short stop and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Kimbrough then singled to left field and advanced to second on the throw, while Stephan advanced to third. Tupua-Tautalatasi then flied out to right field for a sacrifice RBI, bringing in Stephan for a run. De Gaetano then followed with a double to center field, which brought in Kimbrough for the final score of the game.
After bringing in six RBI on Saturday versus BYU, Tautalafua brought in three today to lead the 49ers.
