Jessica Flores Throws No. 22 Softball's Second Straight One-Hitter Against Santa Clara
Long Beach State claims its second run-rule win of the season.
San Diego, Calif. - Jessica Flores struck out eight Santa Clara batters in six innings pitched as No. 22 Long Beach State continued to roll in San Diego, defeating Santa Clara 8-0 in six innings.
Flores allowed just one hit, as the Long Beach State (14-3) pitching staff continues to thrive at the San Diego Classic, pitching a second straight one-hitter.
Meanwhile, the offense got started early and closed the game out early after picking up two final runs in the eighth inning against Santa Clara (0-8).
Two walks set the table for Long Beach State in the bottom of the first inning, and after an RBI single from Jamie Wren, a critical error in center field from Santa Clara allowed two more runs as the Beach took a 3-0 lead.
Walks would again help the Beach double their lead in the fourth inning, as Torres and Fry each walked, and Naomi Hernandez cashed in the runs with a two-run double before coming around to score herself on an RBI single by Taylor Jaurique.
The designated home team, Long Beach State loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth. An RBI groundout from Rachel Loera and a pinch hit single from Aniesa Maulupe ended the contest early as the Beach walked off in the sixth.
The 49ers are currently underway against UCF in the final game of the day for Long Beach State.
