Softball Splits on Day Two of Easton Desert Classic

The Long Beach State softball team (4-3) won one and lost one on day two of the Easton Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., defeating Nevada 8-1 while following to Oregon State 17-3. With the win versus Nevada, Head Coach Kim Sowder recorded her 200th career victory at Long Beach State. LBSU 8, Nevada 1 De Gaetano then doubled to left field in the bottom of the fifth, which brought in Kimbrough and Brianna Stephan to give LBSU a 5-0 lead. Nevada was able to score a run in the top of the sixth, but LBSU tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth led off by a Stephan double that brought in Gregorio. Stephan then scored a run on a throwing error, which also brought home Darian Tautalafua as the 49ers went up 8-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning. Nevada could not score and the game ended with the 49ers winning 8-1. Oregon State 17, LBSU 3
Oregon State answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second, and tacked on two more in the bottom of the third as they would take a 5-3 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Oregon State exploded for 12 runs to stretch its lead to 17-3. LBSU was unable to score in the fifth and the game was called in Oregon State's favor. Long Beach wraps up competition in Las Vegas on Sunday when they take on Utah at 1:30 pm. |
